To Import Exported Security Settings to the Current Folder or Work Area

  1. Select a folder or work area.
  2. In the Preview Pane, select the Access Control tab and click the Import Permissions icon.

The Import Security Settings dialog opens.

  3. In the Import Security Settings dialog, do the following:
    1. Click Browse to select the local Excel file containing the security settings you want to import.
    2. Set how many levels of folder security to import:

To import the security settings from all levels of folders listed in the Excel file, keep the All Levels setting turned ON.

      or

To import the security settings from just the top folder or work area listed in the Excel file (and none of its subfolders or sub-work areas), turn off All Levels, and in the Levels field enter a value of 1.

      or

To import the security settings from the top folder or work area, and also those from the first level of subfolders or sub-work areas below it, turn off All Levels, and in the Levels field enter a value of 2.

Increase the value in the Levels field to import security settings from additional levels of subfolders and sub-work areas as necessary. Note that when you import the security settings of one or more levels below the top folder, only the settings of matching folders at matching folder levels will be imported.

    3. Click OK.

The security settings from the Excel file are imported to the current folder or work area structure.

You will notice that the permissions of the current folder or work area are automatically replaced by those of the top level folder from the Excel file.

  4. On the Access Control tab, click Apply to save the changes.
  5. If the folder or work area you imported security settings to does not have any subfolders/sub-work areas, then the changes are saved.

    Otherwise:

If you imported permissions to a folder that has subfolders and/or sub-work areas, the Confirm Folder Security Changes dialog opens. Select Apply changes to this folder only if you want to merge the imported subfolder/sub-work area permissions with the existing subfolder/sub-work area permissions. If you select Apply changes to this folder only and the same user is listed in both the imported permissions and the existing permissions for a particular subfolder/sub-work area, then the user's existing subfolder/sub-work area permissions are replaced with the imported subfolder/sub-work area permissions. Select Apply changes to this folder and subfolders if you want to replace the existing subfolder permissions with the imported subfolder permissions. Click OK in the Confirm Folder Security Changes dialog.

    or

If you imported permissions to a work area that has subfolders and/or sub-work areas, the Confirm Work Area Security Changes dialog opens. Select Apply changes to this work area, subfolders and sub-work areas if you want to replace the existing subfolder and sub-work area permissions with the imported subfolder and sub-work area permissions.
